From day 6 and 7 of the Erasmus-exchange to Albaida, Spain, report Caroline H. and Malia V. (10b):
DAY 6 and 7, Weekend
At the weekend we didn´t meet at school to do something, unlike the other days. Everyone did something with their exchange partner and their families. On Saturday a few students were at the beach in Gandia, other students visited a waterfall in a little group. There was also a student who was in an ant museum.
But most of us just relaxed at home and had a rest as after all, there was a big event that took place in Albaida on Saturday: Carnival. In Albaida they celebrate it at a different time than in Germany. Probably every student was there at some point, some were there from 10 pm to midnight, others have only just come at this point and stayed until six in the morning with their host families (but those missed out the carnival parade which was at midnight). At first, there was a carnival parade and then after it there was a big event on stage with a DJ playing (mostly) Spanish music (or songs that started in English and are originally English, but then there was a Spanish remix). There is a very special and interesting tradition in Albaida. On carnival the eighteen-year-old girls of Albaida celebrate with the forty-year-olds of the town and they visit pubs together. Somehow, they all know each other because it is such a small town.
On Sunday most of us slept very long. Except for one student, who had to get up very early, at 9 am, because he went hiking. Many of us visited the beach, ate at nice restaurants and shopped souvenirs. One student also went to the beautiful white village of Altea. Also, almost everyone ate ice cream there and enjoyed the great weather.
